![]() ![]() There’s something to be said about the brilliance of Mario Kart, a game refined over umpteen years to the point where Nintendo no longer feels the need to innovate upon it any further. A game I’ve sunk well over 100 hours into, as not only was it a lot of fun, but it also reminded me of the good ‘ol days playing video games with my sister. The main title I’d always go to was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I’d pop a Brutalmoose stream on in the background (love that guy), and chill out to some easy, pick-up-and-play games. My only recourse was my Switch, which was handily practical to play in bed as I hid away from all my fears and woes. It hit me all at once, and at times it was unbearable. For the first time in my life, I experienced full-blown anxiety, worries about my future, and was facing the worst my depression had ever gotten. Nintendo And The Romansĭuring my third year of university, I hit a real slump. Not just because I think the game is good, but because I think it’s better than Mario Kart. My love of Team Sonic Racing is another controversial opinion. I am also secure in the knowledge that even if everyone disagrees with me that Breaking Bad sucks, or that the O.A should have been cancelled before it even began, I am still content, locked away with no friends. ![]() In all sincerity, I’m genuinely happy with my opinions. I mean, I actually liked Left Alive for the PS4, who does that? There goes my credibility as a games journalist. If you’re the kind of player that loves Sonic and friends, and delights in zipping around creative, inventive tracks, listening to amazing music and teaming up with unlikely allies to batter Big the Cat into the ground (where it belongs), Team Sonic Racing is for you.I often have controversial opinions, so much so that I’ve actively lost friends over them. Team Sonic Racing may not dethrone the king – Mario Kart sees pretty immortal from where we’re sitting – but it does a great job of revitalising the genre and providing something different in the kart game space. It means Team Sonic Racing is one of those games that’s easy to learn, difficult to master, and fun at any skill level. If all three players in a team use these different classes – and slingshot each other, recover each other and utilise each other’s strengths in order to outweigh the classes’ weaknesses – they can create really interesting and dynamic matchups against other teams. They can also open up new routes via breaking obstacles other racers can’t – offsetting lower speed with creative shortcut placement. These tanky karters are more resistant to collisions from other players, and though their acceleration leaves a lot to be desired, these characters can smash through different obstructions in the road without being slowed down too much. Good all-rounders, for sure.įinally, there are Power Class characters. Between more freedom in choosing routes and better handling, this Class can nip Speed players in the bud without too much effort. Players in this Class can cut corners, go over rough terrain, and receive minimal penalties for it. Technique Class racers handle better and accelerate faster, though typically have a lower top speed. This means that players that want to focus more on drifting and want to be more defensive when it comes to maintaining speed are going to have the best time here. Speed Class racers – perhaps unsurprisingly – have the best top speed. The game has 15 characters split into three classes: Speed, Technique and Power. ![]()
